Star Boy/Girl Look for Love in the Shape of a Cloud | by James Diaz

They cool their skin
along the backs of trees
wait for wind / & what they don’t understand about its force
to pick through their hollow
make dark a thing to lean into
hungry and fierce
that all of this
is theirs
and that they can’t touch it
not in the way they want to touch it
brainy, hard lipped, to break it on their tongue
as if spirit is
what they’re after
as if you could eat all of that light
and find no dark.
